A 14 yo boy is ceratinly too young for a 17 yo girl. But the opposite may work well.

I don't think its wrong at all unless if it was just for sex.

There is a HUGE difference between 14 and 17. Yes it's only 3 years but the amount of growing you do between 14 and 17 is very very substantial. It absolutely cannot be compared to a 24 yr old dating a 27 year old.

It's very natural for a 14 yr old girl to have a crush on an older guy, but best to wait till she is 16 and he is 19.

There really isnt a difference when both parties are adults as in xxbubblesxx's parents case, but usually when a 17 yr old boy is remotely interested in a 14 yr old girl, its for the physical aspect of it. Young girls are very naive. They tend to believe whatever an older boy says, and will do pretty much whatever he asks her to do. Understand that if a boy truly liked you, he would NEVER push you into doing anything sexual!
