There's no need to take your laptop to be repaired - its not broken like that, and it would be an unnecessary spending of money.

Somehow the option for displaying the connect button has disappeared. So, if you want it back (assuming you are using Windows XP, but if you're using another Windows it should pretty much be the same), do the following:

- Right-click on the Start Bar
- Click on Properties
- Click on the highlighted Customize button
- At the top of the new window, there should be two tabs - General, and Advanced. Click on Advanced.
- In the middle box labelled Start Menu Items, scroll down until you see Network Connections
- The little button should be currently set to Don't Display This Item. Click Display as Connect Menu, and then press OK at the bottom of the window
- Click Apply, then click OK

The Connect Button on the Start Bar should now be back. If it works, or doesn't, let us know!

call your internet service, or maybe take your laptop to be repaired.
