What would be the right place for intelligent students in India who can't get into the IIT's?

Hi,

I'm not in India, but this blog has excellent discussion/ideas for alternatives to the current IIT infrastructure in India.

Personally, I don't know much about the entrance exams, but I would suggest either the person try again (if possible), or find an independent job that doesn't require an IIT degree.
