Dear alwaysandforever,
Baking Soda is an abrasive. This will eventually wear away the enamel off the teeth causeing the opposite effect you want. This is an old wives tale.

I used to know a lady who's teeth were very white and I asked how she did it and she said baking soda. The problem is that there was no enamel on her teeth like sue90 says. Breathe is fresh and I'm sure it takes some time to lighten them up this way.
It's up to you but I wouldn't do it a lot.
