Tinnitus is the term you are searching for.
Tinitus can be temporary or permanent. When I was a musician I had tinnitus but a few years after I quit playing it went away.
Lots of people with tinitus use white noise generators to help them sleep. Sometimes tinnitus is caused by an ear infection or blockage; an Ear Nose and Throat doctor can check for this. In my case it was caused by exposure to loud noise music. Do you listen to loud music? A lot of kids these days turn their portable music players way up and damage their hearing this way. If that is your cause you should look into noise canceling earphones so you won't have to turn the volume up as high to hear your music clearnly.
Good luck!

I saw something years ago and 4got what it called
ok ima try and explain it... its like when its really quiet or your trying to go to sleep, and your ears are ringing or jsut making a bunch of different noises. like last night I was trying to sleep and I would lay my head down and I would hear like water...
running or bunch o fppl talking at once and you cant understand it. the only way to get rid of the noise is to find something to drown it out. like a fan or some music. I saw something bout that maybe 3 years ago on 60 mins or 20/20 and I have tried looking it up. idont know what to type in to look for it. so if neone knows what it is or can tell me how to look it up I would appreciate it. thanks
