You practice, practice, practice. If you've never had any experience with dancing, gymnastics, etc, then just take it slow. Some of the simplest things will help you get there gradually. For example, when you're watching t.v., sit on the floor and spread your legs in the farthest V shape you can get them...then push them a bit further and stretch forward and from side to side. Push yourself, but not too far or you'll end up hurt and losing motivation. Don't expect results over night, but gradually you'll be able to do the splits (or at least get closer to it). As for backflips, that's another story, but for overall flexibility, the same can be used elsewhere...it's all about gradually stretching and manipulating your body into going a bit further than it's used to.
wow that really works!!! thanks
Do you mean backflip as in backhandspring? or back sommersault? they both arent vastly difficult moves so if you get a spotter and a mat you should be able to do it in no time.
But on the subject of flexibility try doing hip bridges and gymnastic bridges (google them to find a description)
I hope you get that backflip
dude I will so try that
This isn't really that hard to do.
I'm haven't been in gymnastics or cheerleading for like 6-8 years and I can still do them.
Flexibility isnt really a key factor for doing a backflip, I was a gymnast when I was younger and there were many girls on my team that werent very flexible but excellent gymnasts. I cant help you do a backflip, but I can help you with the basic position you are going to have to get your body into when you try to do it ( I suggest you have someone spot you, and a mat for safety reasons). You should lay doen on the floor with your arms straight up behind your head and your feet straight ahead of you on the floor. Your body should like like The 'I' letter, then very quickly you need to bring your legs up to your chest, you have to do the same with your arms, but your arms are suppose to be by your legs, but your suppose to barely hold onto your legs. DONT drop your head back, you need to keep it straight at all times, otherwise you may hurt your neck. That is the basic way to do a back flip, when you have someone to spot you( prefferably someone strong) on a soft surface you know what position you need your body to be in!! GOOD LUCK =)
well what I did was just basically I got into tumbling classes and then I did the stretching that they required but eventually I got it and now im doing full twisting layouts! RICHOUS
you dont need to be flexible to be able to do a backflip. im a gymanst so I am flexible but a guy at my school can do a backfip and he is not flexible! but a gud way to learn is to get a trampoline and learn on that first and then try on a soft mat until you are confident to try on grass. DONT TRY ON CONCRETE BECAUSE YOU MIGHT BREAK YOUR ELBOWS!!!
Yea, definitely try it on a trampoline first. Of course, I'm a freakin pro at back flips on the trampoline now, but the first time I tried to do a back flip on the ground, I ended up getting a gash on my forehead. That's probably because I got scared half way through the flip. Oh yea, after that I NEVER tried it again. lololol

How to become flexible to do backflips?
