How do I identify a bird egg I found?

I have found an egg that is a base color of tan and it has tiny brownish dots and it has bigger dots on it too its about 1 1/4" long. I live in the desert in Palm Springs. Could it be a Road Runner and how do I tell what it is?????!!!!!
