Ice does work, because it shrinks the swelling. Ice may not be the best option however, because the skin may become damaged after long exposure. Besides, ice is so cold that it hurts. Try a damp, cool cloth, or a ice/water mixute in a bad. Also, limiting salt in your diet can help with the swelling
