I work with 3 and 4 year olds, they are still learning the alaphabet now and most of them can do a-z with a little bit of help, a 25 month old should be able 2 make 2 or 3 sentences with you and you should b able 2 make out mst things he or she is saying, sort objects by shape or colour and they say you 2 about 50 words a day adding a word each time . and as for counting to 20 they are stil learning there numbers so they could probably count to about 5 maybe a little higher with some help, all children are at different stages at this age some can count to 10 some can count to 5 I think 20 mite be a little high for a 25 month old though, they could probably di it with your help though x
They don't have to "should" know a certain amount of stuff... well like, they should know the basics of life (colors, shapes, alphabet, what have you.)
My teacher's daughter knows a lot at 2 years old, she can talk perfectly and walk.. but I don't know what 25 month olds should know, seeing as I'm not a mother, nor will I be for like 10 more years. x]
you should talk to your pediatrician about that as all kids develop on their own. there are some websites available. maybe you should get a book called What to expect the first 5 years. that would help you more then any advice you will get from this website as no one on here knows the mental developement of your child. maybe you should check out this website:
http://www.parents.com/
that will tell you the things about normal developement for a child your kid's age.

How much stuff should a 25 month old girl know?
How much stuff should a 25 month old girl know? Should she be able to count to 20, recite the alphabet and know all the basic colours?
