I would recommend looking at what you are eating and how much exercise you are getting not the actual calories. If you are very active and eating healthy food than you will start to shed weight. If you are sitting at the pc all day and eating McDonald's...well it's a life style change you should be considering.

"What should a minimum calorie intake be?"
As a guide to minimum calorie intake, the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) recommends that calorie levels never drop below 1200 calories per day for women or 1800 calories per day for men. Even these calorie levels are quite low.
