19- I'm selective about who I add to my friends. I get a bit weirded out when people add me as friends and I've never even talked to them.

Once I joked with someone else that some people on here add friends to their list like they're collecting baseball cards!

yep I agree with lex icon, some people on here are simply friend collectors.
I am selective as well, usually there has to be an element of common ground somewhere to remain in my list- although I have quite a few friends of opposing opinions- which is great and it keeps me real.
I have 24 friends, and I believe I have communicated with most of them at one point or another.
and I appreciate them all.

I'm not concerned about the amt of friends I have. I've always felt that having 1 good friend is better than 100 half a$$ ones.

I usually add someone after I've talked to them a few times or, sometimes, if I read someones profile and see that we have a lot in common, I'll add them, but most of my friends were added by them. Maybe they saw something in my profile that they had in common with me.

But, what does a number tell you, exactly? Some people have been on here longer than others and will probably have more friends as a result. Plus, people that want to have a lot of 'friends', can just from site to site, adding friends and get a lot of them. As someone mentioned...others are collectors of friends. I say...Whatever floats your boat.
