How long can an unrequited love last?

I wonder how long can I love a girl, who was my first one. It's been more than 3 years since we broke up but I still think of her almost every day, remember everything in details. I even don't know if I want to love her any more, I just can't stop that....

Does anyone have any ideas? (PS. I'm not asking what to do)

hmm well if you listen to stories about great artists, apparently some of them loved women they were not with their entire lives (beethoven, edgar allen poe etc etc)
But no, I think it's rare to not get over someone. You may always remember her (they say first loves are special) but it doesnt mean you'll always be in love with her... It will probably get better when you meet someone else you really care about. Sucks in the meantime (I think my longest obsession was 5 years) but nothing lasts forever...
