Cars are great but can be used wrongly (breaking the speed limit, causing accidents etc). Cars are not sinful but people can be sinful with them.

Sex is great but can be used wrongly. God is not unhappy with sex - He made it and He made sure it was fun as well as practical (thank you God). But the car analogy still works - sex is not sinful but people can be sinful with sex.

Don't confuse the fact that some sexual behaviour is wrong with the idea that God hates sex. He just recognises that it has a context, which, for Christians and many others, is marriage.

The only form of sex that is sanctioned is between married couples, otherwise it is considered sinful. It's just a social constraint to control humans.

Wow, God created sex, all this time I thought it evolved. That makes God kind of psychotic, why is he so sexist.

Don't beleve any of this crap. Sex is great. Have as much of it as you can. Just make sure you are doing it safely and responsibly, and preferably with someone you care deeply for. It is much better that way.

But if you can't have sex, mas*urbat*on is pretty good, but it is a poor substitute.

Sex is only a 'sin' if you're doing it wrong. Otherwise it's fine.

God doesn't hate sex. It is intrinsically good. His first command was to 'Be fruitful and multiply.' Man and woman have a unique, complimentary relationship. They are bone of the same bone and flesh of the same flesh. 'That is way a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, and the two become one flesh.'

Contrary to popular belief, the Catholic Church doesn't hate sex either. As a mattter of fact, the Church believes that it is a Sacrament. The one flesh union is the outward visible sign of the Sacrament of Matrimony.

Why is the Church so 'hung up' on sex then? Because she is trying to protect a very potent gift from God. Her teachings on Sex and sexual responsibility actually make a lot of sense, and are beautiful in their continuity and lucidity. I suggest Pope John Paul 2's book 'Love and Responsibility', also the compilation his Wednesday audience lectures called 'Theology of the Body' (or 'Male and Female He created them' which is a better translation), and his Encyclical letter 'Mulierum Dignitatis' (which is Latin for 'The Dignity of Women'), and His Post Synodal Apostolic Exhortation 'Christifidelis Laici' (Latin for 'Lay Members of Christ's Faithful People'), and Pope Benedict 16's first Encyclical 'Dues Caritas Est' (God is Love).

Note: these works were all written in other languages, which means that they are difficult to read if you are not familiar with the writings of the Popes. Christopher West does an excellent jod of putting the 'Theology of the Body' into common English.

This question looks like it could get very interesting soon.

What a great idea! Reading books about sex written by men who supposedly never actually had sex.

Unless little boys count?

floss... arthur... Great Answers...

Sex... for the sake of sex... destroys.

It is powerful.

It is potent.

It is a precious gift from God, to not be squandered.

There is very little reverence left in our world, for anything holy and pure.

However, this is the way sex was designed to be.

God never meant it to be flaunted the way it is today.

Nor did he mean for it to be degrading.

It is supposed to be the ultimate gift that a man can give his wife, or vice versa.

It is to be cherished.

It is to be protected.

It is meant to be sanctioned by marriage, and a lifetime union.

God speaks in word pictures, and a man and woman become one, in sexual union,
just as a Christian becomes one with Christ in the spirit.

God intended the marriage union on earth to picture the union he has with his people in the Spirit.

Gods wonderful gifts are easily trampled upon by man.

When you give away that special part of you that is sacred, you leave a bit of your self behind. If you have enough partners, your soul becomes fragmented. There are many people out there that have lost all respect for themselves, because they had no sexual discretion. They no longer have a healthy sense of self, because they have become splintered. No longer a whole person.

Sex, when used for sport, becomes very selfish. It is no longer a gift, it is now a tool, to satisfy self, sometimes at any cost.

Many do not distinguish between lust and love. Two entirely different emotions.

Love is a gift that keeps on giving.

Lust is looking out for self.

*** 'Lust is looking out for self.'

So is eating. No-one complains about that. There's nothing inherently wrong with self interest. It's only when it's short sighted that it equates to stupidity.

'Sex... for the sake of sex... destroys. '

Only if you don't practice safe sex.

'It is powerful.

It is potent.'

Wow, I have about 20 different lines I could use here, but I will abstain and try to keep it rated PG.

'It is a precious gift from God, to not be squandered.'

Squandering it to me would be not doing it at every chance you get.

'There is very little reverence left in our world, for anything holy and pure.'

There is still plenty of reverence for important things in our world. Like brotherhood, justice, and peace. To bad it is religious belief driving the war aginst these concepts.

'However, this is the way sex was designed to be.'

We evoloved into sexual beings because natural selection dictated it. Plus it is a lot of fun, and should never be taken too seriously.

'God never meant it to be flaunted the way it is today.'

Another good reason not to believe in him.

'Nor did he mean for it to be degrading. '

It is only degrading to you. I have never felt degraded for having sex.

'It is supposed to be the ultimate gift that a man can give his wife, or vice versa.'

Agreed. And I give it to her as much as I can. Same can be said about a man and his girlfriend, or a man and his boyfreind, or a girl and her girl friend. It should be also a man and his husband, and a girl and her wife, but you religious types seem to get all upset when some people show there love for each other.

'It is to be cherished.'

And I do.

'It is to be protected.'

Damn. But , I hate wearing those things. Like wearing a raincoat in the shower.

'It is meant to be sanctioned by marriage, and a lifetime union.'

Says you.

'God speaks in word pictures, and a man and woman become one, in sexual union,
just as a Christian becomes one with Christ in the spirit.'

Word pictures? Sounds like pornograghy to me. tsk, tsk, tsk...

'God intended the marriage union on earth to picture the union he has with his people in the Spirit.'

But what if I have a headache? Do I still have to do it with the spirit too?

'Gods wonderful gifts are easily trampled upon by man.'

Alright, I don't want anyone trampling on my gifts. Ouch!

'When you give away that special part of you that is sacred, you leave a bit of your self behind. If you have enough partners, your soul becomes fragmented. There are many people out there that have lost all respect for themselves, because they had no sexual discretion. They no longer have a healthy sense of self, because they have become splintered. No longer a whole person.'

Of course a little bit is left behind. I have had a few other partners before my wife, as did she. Believe me we are very whole. It is you that is splintered due to your unhealthy views of a perfectly noraml biological act.

'Sex, when used for sport, becomes very selfish. It is no longer a gift, it is now a tool, to satisfy self, sometimes at any cost.'

It is a tool. It is a tool that couples use ot please each other, and to become closer to one another. Just like conversation and companionship are tools in a relationship. To treat it as something more than it is only leads to it being treated as something less than it is. It is not liberal views of sex that have lead to unwanted pregnancy, sexual deviation, and promiscuity. It is people like you who want to preach to others about what they do behind closed doors that lessen what sex should be about. Which is FUN!!!

'Many do not distinguish between lust and love. Two entirely different emotions.'

Yes, they do, and they are not mutually exclusive. I lust after my wife all the time. But I also love her. I lust after other women sometimes. I just choose not to act on it. We are all human and at times experience lust. It has nothing to do with love.

'Love is a gift that keeps on giving.'

Yep, and so is sex!

'Lust is looking out for self.'

No lust is just a desire for something. You lust after god. Well I guess you are only looking out for your self when you do that.

Sex is in no way a sin!! Sex is a gift from God to a MARRIED COUPLE. Sex outside of marriage is a different story, it's not for you yet if you're not married. I think of it like a Christmas gift hiding in the closet. You're not to get it before Christmas, if you go in and take it before Christmas it's stealing bc it's not yours yet until it's given to you. If you peek, it just makes it harder to wait. It's easier just to leave it alone until Christmas, lol. It's kinda hard if you've already had sex because once the door is opened you cant close it and you'll have all these urges and watnot. to me, thats the consequence of doing it when you werent supposed to. it's still possible to resist it though. it's being done by people all around the world, including me. I find it easy if I just dont look at it, talk about it, listen about it, or even think about it. If it's on a commerical I'll turn my head or turn the show or not listen to songs about sex. of course, I also think that it will be harder to resist without God giving you the strength to abstain. I know it's nothing but the grace of God that's enabling me to keep my stuff to myself. and remember, a way of escape is always provided in any temptation...He will never put a situation on you that you cannot handle. Hope I helped!

The reason that the bible forbids sex so we can enjoy that with who we marry and procreation.
Sex is a sin because that's pretty much killing off what you'd be enjoying with your spouse and its sacred.

Uhm, how does having sex before marriage kill off enjoyment of sex within in marriage? That's like saying 'if you eat out before marriage, it'll kill off eating out after you're married'.

He doesn't hate sex ! The first commandment in the Bible was 'Go forth and multiply.'

Adam and Eve weren't married. Noah slept with his step-daughters. Abraham encouraged his wife to marry bigamously. Samson slept with many pros*I*u*es. Solomon had thousands of wives. But they were people chosen by God for great roles.

God hates disrespect, abusive relationships, abandonment.
