How does this website know where you live?

I just signed up and I didn't put any information about where I'm from, and it automatically logged my city. Do they check IP's or something?

Geo ip lookup, same as most websites...eg, your IP address is in a database where somebody mapped out the location of that IP address.

It's reasonably accurate, but not 100%.

I don't know that they go by zip codes or not. but like the Dude said not 100% accurate. They are way off on mine. But I just left it. Keeps em guessing.
