Fronline is a topical treatment that is applied on your pet's skin between the shoulder blades. The "medicine" dispurses to cover the entire animal in about 24 hours after application. It stays on your pet for about 30 days. If an adult female flea bites your pet, it will die within a few hours, thus preventing it from laying eggs. Although Frontline is water-resistance, if you wash your pet often, the Frontline protection may last about 3 weeks. Prevention is achieved by killing the adult female flea before she is able to colonize. She must feed to lay eggs and when she bites your pet trying to get to the blood, she bites the Frontline first. Remember, if you see fleas on your pet but have not seen them in your house, this DOES NOT mean you do not have fleas in your house. The pupa stage of the flea is water-tight. Pesticides cannot penetrate it. Put a flea collar inside your vaccuum cleaner bag and vaccuum often, remembering to use your crevice tool and go around your baseboards thouroughly. Flea larve do not like light and will seek out dark corners. The larvae can live inside the cacoon for months waiting to feel the "vibration" of a passing host which will cause them to hatch. Wash all bedding in hot water. Fleas do not live on humans, but will bite if they are starving and there is not a host available.
