How do you use cheats in sims 2 deluxe?

Ok, I found a site to get game cheats for the Sims 2 Deluxe, but I can't figure out how to integrate them into the game. I pressed Control, Shift, C and then type in the code, but all it shows is an error message. Could you please tell me what I'm doing wrong? BTW, it's for PC. Don't know if that makes a difference or not...lol!!
