90% of "making it" is about selling yourself. it's about 10% talent.

Try making some professional recordings of yourself and then subscribing to some talent websites. ( exploretalent.com talentmatch.com etc)
Sing in public any chance you get. UYpload performances to Youtube and myspace. Upload music to myspace. Audition every chance you get. ( try bestnewtalentawards.com )

sing in front of people... Send tapes to hollywood producers of you singing...if your good enough you could become famouse.

Record producers receive thousands of demo CDs and tapes daily. They do not listen to them all. You have to be creative about publicity, as Sika explained. Start locally, get a following in your home town, actually, buy a book called The Billboard Book of Publicity. It has some top notch information on how to make it as a musician.
