How do I make a voice call on windows live messenger chat?

I use Windows XP SP2. I recently bought a webcam with a mike, and tried making a video call to a friend using Windows Live Messenger. While the video goes through perfectly, the audio does not go through. In short I cannot hear what my friend says nor can my friend hear me. Can anyone please tell me how to fix this problem? Thanks.

First check the cord connections. After you have established a working mic using another program like Windows Sound Recorder. Then make sure that your friend has done the same before moving onto program settings.

Do you both have service to videoconference through your telephone provider? On Microsoft's web site I read, and I quote, 'Start making calls within minutes to mobile and landline phones across the county or around the world. (You’ll need to sign up for service with Verizon, but it’s super easy).'

Any of that fix your issue? If not then you are going to have to check volume settings on the computer as well as the program, then possibly just nuke the program and reinstall it on both ends. (Restart Restart Restart)

You might also want to look into Skype if you and several people want to communicate. It's free and easy to use and setup. www.skype.com...
