Whenever someone says something about it, politely tell them that you haven't read it yet and don't want to hear any spoilers and also stay away from any media that may contain spoilers. (most blogs will post SPOILER WARNING if the post contains one.)
Hurry up and read it.
I know you said you did not want to be rude and sikashimmer has told you the best way to handle spoilers. But if it were me, I would make such a big deal out of it. I would plug my ears and start to sing, "LALALALALA" very loud. I would then explain, with my ears still covered, that I had not finished the series and I did not want to hear a thing. Of course it isn't possible to avoid everything but there are ways to prevent it being ruined for you. It is worth being surprised. Let me just tell you about what Ron and Hermione did in chapter 14...Kidding!
I am excited for you to get through the series. The books were awesome!
Do not under any circumstances go to 'gaiaonline.com's forums. Especially the General Discussion.
Simple.
Avoid all Harry Potter sites completely because they all have the spoilers now. I got spoiled the night before the release of the book because someone leaked the book online and posted it on forums.

How do I avoid harry potter spoilers?

A lot of people around me have been talking about Deathly Hallows. So far, I've heard a few things that seem VERY important (there's no way I'm saying what I heard on the internet) but I'm really not sure if it's true, just by the way I heard them.
So I REALLY need a way to avoid finding out any more, even though what I heard is as important as you can get! I've only read up to the fourth book, so I'm scarred to hear about anything after it!
