Horses...

Ok I know this is going to sound beyond stupid. But I think it's wrong to ride horses, anyone else feel that. Because I'm pretty sure I'm the only one.

Well, horses are one of the few animals that are built strong enough to endure being ridden, and studies have shown that many horses are actually happier with someone on their back.

Nonethless, I have never ridden a horse, nor will I do so, but that's all due to my religion and it's ideal that all life is precious and must be treated with kindness and respect. I don't think it respectful to use a living creature as a means of transportation...I have legs for that, if need be.

But that's just me.

No, it's not "wrong," in my opinion. Abusing animals is wrong, but not the reasonable use of horses in service to human beings. The greatest moral teacher I know, famously rode on the back of some kind of equine when entering Jerusalem.

By the way, if humans didn't ride, and love, horses I wonder how many of them there would be left in the world. I suspect there wouldn't be many.

I had a horse that was very special to me. I never used saddles, harnesses, reins, or bridles. I let her run free in a field and when I called her name, she came running. She had the option not to come to me, but she always chose to let me ride her. We had an understanding and we both enjoyed the rides.
Everybody has a right to their beliefs on this, but I don't think it hurts a horse or mine wouldn't have kept coming back.

Pet horses that are loved, and cared for...love being with their masters...and will kneel down to help you up...or stand still while you leap or struggle up...then give you a look., that says..."Where do you want to go? " ... They do come when they're called...and really enjoy the security of you being with them on a nice long trail ride...
( they wouldn't want to be alone, because they're scared of being eaten or falling...so want a leader/protector). Remember GOD put us in the Garden of Eden to care for the animals and keep HIM company...so the animals are happy with our dominion and protection, as long as they sense we are on their side.

hahaha I train horses...and trust me theres nothing wrong with it. theyre built for it. you eat meat dont you? well, its kinda the same concept. you eat meat, people ride horses. nothing wrong with it. just the way it is. horses are a resource that are on this planet for a reason. just like cows and everything else are here for people to eat. just like horses eat grass. big deal. its the circle of life.

There is a unique trust between horses and mankind...it's different than that with a dog. When a horse is being trained, it's learning to override it's own instincts...a bridle that holds it's head, when a horse wants to be able to "look around" to stay safe...A saddle...and then a live animal (man) on top, when to a horse only mountain lions, and bears get on them in the wild (very scary)...they need their feet to run, yet they will allow man to hold their feet to put shoes on...All these things can be taught to a horse...without trauma or fear...just slow building of mutual trust.

That's a darn complimentary relationship between animal and mankind.

Spurs, these days are used mostly for show dress...it's the lower leg that gives direction, not the heel...My horses love it when they see us hook up to the trailer...they want to go somewhere...and they trust us to keep them safe...

I can understand that. But they usually don't seem to mind it.
Most humans give horses the best lives they can. I do believe if they want to be wild, they should be.
I've ridden horses and used to have two. We kept them at the nicest barns and looked after them the best we could.
The horses are happy, so it shouldn't matter.
As long as their happy, I think its fine.
But I definitely can understand what you're saying
