There seems to be different answers for a question such as this so hopefully you will get a few answers to choose from. Then you can decide which answer is the best. I learned after a perm is complete, the cuticle is closed. The nuetrelizer solution of the perm stops the action of the perm solution. When the cuticle is closed, your hair is protected again. The perms we used you could shampoo your hair in 24 hours. After the first shampoo, it was ok to color or hi-lite your hair. If you were my client, I would have you come back to the salon on day 3 for your hi-lites. This is very important; if the perm solution was not comletely rinsed from your hair, and the neutrelizer was not left on your hair for the right amount of time, the perm solution will still be working. This is what causes some perms to become frizzy after a couple of weeks. Having anything done to hair causes some damage. Some applications are not as harmful as others. If you had your perm done in a salon, then it is safe to assume the stylist did the perm correctly and you should be safe with getting hi-lites after only a few days. I bet you will look great!

depends on the type of hair you have. But I'd wait until at least 2 weeks.
