Hello,
I am a qualified beautician and your right it does not pay very well at all!! I dont do this as a main job because of this I just usually stick to friends and family to make a little bit of extra money on the side.
I studied at college for 3 years. If you are willing to travel with it, it can make you a fair amount of money. I once had an interview for a cruise ship and the money was incredible but the hours were extremely long from a minimum of 10 per day. There was a lot of people that went for this job and because I was so young (18 at the time) and not very experienced unfortunately I didnt get it. It was a very fun course though although because it was all girls could sometimes be quite a tense atmosphere.
Good Luck with whatever you do.

It can make great money but you have to be willing in the beginning to put in lots of hours and just be patient. They are days you won't have any clients but use that time to watch and learn other stylists and grow your education. It's really a fun career and its also got flexability which is great when you get older and have children. You can book your appointments around your schedule. It's great. I'm sure in different states the hours you take are different but most take around 9 months to complete the course. Just find you a good cosmetology school and good luck!

You should also take into account standing for long periods of time and being in a workplace where you will be breathing in harmful chemicals (hairspray, etc.)

It depends where are you working really. My best friend used to work as a hairdresser but now she is back to college to do another course so she can find better job. She used to get 30-40 pounds tips when was a good working day...otherwise 5-10.
If you got another oppurtunity I think you should go for it, leave hairdressing away! If not...then good luck!

I disagree with the 1st ladys answers . I go to vocational school and major their in cosmetology . yes you do pay well if your good at what you do . and it also depends on what your chargiing . also depends if yer getting paid on commision . being a cosmetologist doesnt only mean you have to do hair . you can be a makeup artist, work in nail salons, and or work in giveing facials . [: if you need more info ill be glad to give you my email:Fun mail me . hope you well .
