It all depends on what you want to play and how you want to use the system. If you want to play dvd's, surf the web and play games, I'd say PS3. If you simply are looking for a great gaming system, then XBox 360. If you're more into the active family style kind of games, then I would say the Wii.
What a lot of people forget is that the Wii wasn't built for hardcore gaming. It was built for being an active part of the game. Like to play bowling, you have to go through the motions for bowling for the game to work. For Golf, you actually have to swing the remote like you would a golf club.
While for most XBox and PS3 gaming you are more interested in fast graphics, and fast response from the input device like in a First Person Shooter game. It all comes down to how you want to use the system.
For myself, I have a Wii. My entire family can play the games and everyone has a great time. While the games have single player modes, most offer the ability for 2-4 players. This makes for a great family evening.
But I also have several friends that have PS3 or the XBox and they admit that they too have fun playing the Wii.
