if I wanted to give oral sex but didnt have an outbreak of herpes, could I stil spread genital herpes?

Yes, unfortunately herpes can be spread without an outbreak. So if you have herpes you must always use a condom. This is a safe practise regardless if you do or not. There are several prescribed medications that will help but nothing cures herpes so make sure your partner is always informed you have herpes.
