Even if you work your ab muscles by doing exercises like crunches, your muscles won't show if they are covered by a layer of fat. A combination of cardio and strength training is your best bet. Cardio burns body fat and strength training shapes those muscles. Seriously though, remember that even if you have awesome muscles, they will not show if covered by any fat.
