How do I dye over black hair?

Ok so I've dyed my hair black a couple of times, and I want a change, only thintg is, I made the mistake of attempting to dye my hair over the top, and it didnt work at all (because of the black, silly me lol) so would I have to get it done at the hair dressers if I wanted a ilghter colour than black now, until it grows out?

I've got your same problem, I asked the hairdressers 2day if I cud put colour in my hair she sed no not unles me completly strip your hair, an that will totaly wreck your hair! so I have 2 w8 until it grows out

once you go black there's not way back.If you really hate the black get rid of it otherwise let it grow out.

I hope so, well it was one of them permanent live colour dyes, the last time I dyed it was halloween, and its still not faded.. my roots have come through though :/ lol

I would bleach it, it doesnt always totally ruin your hair it made mine softer, then dye it the color you want, im doing the same this weekend it'll be green :]
