Can habits be inherited like other fatal diseases?

Well, they say certain things like if you're a smoker, your children will smoke or if you drink, your children will drink.

I'm not sure if that is true though, although my mum smokes and now does my 15-year-old sister.

leanna_amy mentioned alcohol, you can inherit a gene that makes you more susceptible to alcoholism, but that is a disease not a habit...
