Godmother duties

my brothers wife is having a baby and she didn't ask my cousin to be the godmother she just told her that she was. is that right?
then she told my cousin that she HAS to through a baby shower..does a godmother HAVE to through a babyshower?

The godmother is under no obligation to throw the baby shower... the godmother is there for the spiritual matters for the baby, not for the mother...
