Jenjen;
Anytime anyone is told they have a problem and have to do something they have never done before, they are scared. The best way to feel better about what is going to happen is to get reliable information. Our fears are usually worse than the reality. I don't know how you found out you have an Ovarian Cyst without a Gynecologist exam, but you are very lucky it was found early. I am also glad to hear that, at your age, you are not sexually active.
It is important that the cyst be evaluated by a special doctor, more commonly reffered to as an OB/GYN. This is because these doctors usually do both obstetrics & gynecology. Obstetrics is for pregnant women, or those trying to become pregnant. Gynecology is just pertaining to the female reproductive system.
You need to talk to your parent who is going to arrange the exam and discuss whether you would feel more comfortable with a male or female doctor. You need to talk openly about what the exam will entail. Once you go to this doctor, you should make sure that he or she fully explains what needs to be done about the cyst. Sometimes hormone therapy ( birth control) is a way to treat a cyst. That may be why this is being talked about. Just remember, just because you are on the pill, it is not an invitation to begin having sex.
WebMD.com is an excellent site to look up any kind of medical condition and may even have information about what is included in a gyn. exam.
No woman really looks forward to the exam. It is not painful, but it is a little uncomfortable and we are not used to "showing" our most private areas or having someone examine them. But an exam is very important to have on a regular basis. Many things can go wrong "down there" and our regular doctors don't usually check that part of our bodies.
But I can not tell you just how important that every girl that is reaching maturity have an exam and a doctor that she feels comfortable going to.
I hope this helps a little, if you want to talk some more about it, just repost your comments.
I hope all goes well and just know that you will be okay. Obviously someone cares very much about you that they are arranging to take good care of you. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Every female has been in your position at some point in their life.
Good Luck!
Don't be scared I was in the same place you are in rite now when I was 13 but instead I had a tumor on my ovary. and they caught it to late so the ovary had to be removed. and the cause of the tumor was from an over grown cyte. your Gynecologist will be really gentle with you since you are so young. you really need to get it looked at. another thing is that they may not even do an exam on but instead do numerous other tests on you like they did with me. but from my personal experience you have nothing to worry about. it will feel very uncomfortable at first having someone down there looking at you but it doesn't hurt. you will just feel a little bit of pressure. I hope everything goes ok. let me know how it goes.
