It's a pretty great thing, you are to go silent the whole day to symbolize and protest how many gay people are forced into silence due to discrimination, hate crimes, etc. There are tshirts and little sheets of paper you can pass out to teachers to explain why you are not speaking.

I did it every year through colllege because my best guy friend was gay.
