please read the words of coretta scott king, widow of martin luther king, jr. -

"I still hear people say that I should not be talking about the rights of lesbian and gay people and I should stick to the issue of racial justice... But I hasten to remind them that Martin Luther King, Jr., said, 'Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere'... I appeal to everyone who believes in Martin Luther King, Jr.'s dream to make room at the table of brotherhood and sisterhood for lesbian and gay people."

"We are all tied together in a single garment of destiny... I can never be what I ought to be until you are allowed to be what you ought to be," she said, quoting from her husband. "I've always felt that homophobic attitudes and policies were unjust and unworthy of a free society and must be opposed by all Americans who believe in democracy."

"Gays and lesbians stood up for civil rights in Montgomery , Selma , in Albany , Georgia , and St. Augustine , Florida , and many other campaigns of the Civil Rights Movement. Many of these courageous men and women were fighting for my freedom at a time when they could find few voices for their own, and I salute their contributions."

"We have a lot of work to do in our common struggle against bigotry and discrimination. I say 'common struggle,' because I believe very strongly that all forms of bigotry & discrimination are equally wrong and should be opposed by right-thinking Americans everywhere. Freedom from discrimination based on sexual orientation is surely a fundamental human right in any great democracy, as much as freedom from racial, religious, gender, or ethnic discrimination."

"Homophobia is like racism and anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry in that it seeks to dehumanize a large group of people, to deny their humanity, their dignity and personhood. This sets the stage for further repression and violence that spread all too easily to victimize the next minority group."

I don't believe the issue is whether people of the same sex should or should not be together.
I believe the issue is whether it is appropriate for same sex couples to be legally married.
whatever two people of the same sex choose to do in their private lives- is their personal business, and no business of mine.
but the marriage deal- I will side with the christians- I do not believe that two people of the same sex should be 'married'. that is my own personal belief- and one I will stick to- and uphold.
as I stated above- if you are gay, then who am I to say you are wrong. be who you are.

Because they are ignorant, I think, especially if the bible has anything to do with it caue that's fiction. People should be with whoever they want to be with. Doesn't matter what sex or color. Also, I think that any couple should be able to get married (with or w/o God involved) and I'm not changing my mind about that, lol

I would encourage you all to listen to the reasoning of the California Supreme court had for repealing the ban on gay marriage. They concluded that denying gays the right to marry was a form of discrimination. You are essentially telling a gay citizen that he/she is less of a person by denying them the right to marry. You cannot say "I support gay rights" and "gays should not marry" without being a complete hypocrite. This has nothing to do with the opinion of religious beliefs (which to my knowledge are for people to live their own lives and not to preach to others, as the Puritans felt that came to this country to escape persecution for their own beliefs). I personally have no interest nor any fear of two same-sex people doing whatever in the world they want to each other as long as it doesn't hurt others.

The argument against gay marriage that it will affect our economy is just a grasp at any reason to deny this minority rights based on what truly is a religious debate. I am more frightened for this country for the ability of these groups to convince the naive that everyone will run out and marry their buddy for "tax reasons" or "employee medical benefits". Remember that beyond the "sanctity" of marriage is the laws around marriage that make the commitment of marriage something to not take lightly.

I will get down from my soap box, but I will gladly defend gay rights with anyone that wants to try to deny them because I never want any group in this country to deny me a right that is shared by others.

Yes the bible is against homosexuallity and that is why God made a female for his man adam in the garden of Eden 2,000 years ago. God Made Women for Men and Men for Women.

There aren't many homophobic people on this site I've noticed (these questions come up now and then) which is really good. I personally believe you should be able to marry whoever you love, no matter; colour, religion, sexuality, etc.
On that note... congratulations to Ellen for announcing shes now getting married, thats amazing.

The Bible also says not to boil a goat in it's mother's milk, and the Bible says slaves should be completely obedient to their masters.

The Bible was written by barbaric men in an age of superstition and small mindedness. It's best to ignore what it says.
