Fancy rats..are they good pets?

I really want this fancy rat at a petstore, and I think I might get it after I research some more. Do fancy rats make good pets? Also, what do you think of chinchillas?

I think rats are great pets, I used 2 have 1 called mr jazz rat, hewas 6 when he died pretty old!! 4 a rat, mr jazz rat came evry wer with me, I trained him 2 get in 2 a handbag and he usd 2 sit in it, an have his head stikin out an he used 2 climb up on why shoulder an walk around with me lol he was so kool!! I was really upset when he died tho an chinchilas are pretty wild lol my mum used 2 have 1, yer there pretty crazy, jumpin around an stuff, I prefer a rat to a chiny tho xx

yea, I think so.I love rats. I had 2 one mohawk and snikers... they liked to sit on my shoulders, but have a towl or something they can get a little messy. but you can train them to do stuff like stand up and dance... I did mine...

rancy rats are the best pet possible I have 9 rats myself. they are very sociable and often like sitting on your shoulder whilst you watch telly. they have big appetites and will often eat anythins as long as it hase no suger or salt in it. they do need a companion in there cage so if they don't get along with anotyer rat use a teddy. they are clean and friendly and will hardly ever bite

Oh my god rats are AMAZING PETS. I have a few right now. They will bond to you like no other. Sometimes I'll accidentally fall asleep on a couch with them.. and they may wander, but I always wake up with them curled up against my stomach or in the crook of my arms. They are wonderful and give you so much love. Just be careful with rats bought from petstores... they often don't live very long because they are inbred. Lots of them get tumors and are susceptible to pneumonia later in life. But, if you don't mind that and want to save some awesome rats from being potential snake food then GO FOR IT. You won't regret it. Be aware that males smell much worse than females because they mark their territory... changing their cage relieves the smell only temporarily, because when you put them back in they need to re-mark their spots!!

hey mate I have 10 rats and theyer wicked theres 1 astuat he sit on my soulder when im drinking coke he comes up and liks it off my lipsd witch is cutie I recone so um yea go for it theyer more preferd to have 1 or 2 more in the cage with it rats are more socialble than cats and dogs

Don't even get me started on pet rats! !!! I almost prefer them over dogs! I am so sad that I cannot have rats where I live now! Rats are the best pets ever! They need allot of room though so get a big cage and get at least two because they need company. Unless you can spend several hours with them a day I strongly suggest getting two.

Also boys leave little pee trails so I got girls.

Like someone said above you may want to look into pet rat breeders. My rats died at age 3 from tumors and respiratory infection because of bad breeding and one had behavioral problems I had to work on. It would pay off not to buy a feeder rat, but then again you are saving a rat that may be killed.
