As semi1900 pointed out a few weeks ago Clinton was more popular with black voters and Obama more popular among white.
Most of the blacks I personally know are Republicans and strong McCain supporters. Then again where I live almost everyone seems to be Republican. I feel like a fish out of water sometimes.
No, not all of them. That's just a generalization that's inaccurate. But in cities with higher African-American populations, Obama generally has higher votes. This isn't just due to race, but also economic factors. Many places with high concentrations of black people are also low-income (read up on white flight and the origins of the suburban environment).
Also, statistically, most African-Americans are Democrats, and so is Obama. Plus I'm sure some of them who would likely not vote otherwise are voting for him, just because he is black (but not all of them!). Imagine if you never had the opportunity to vote for someone of your race, and your race was constantly treated unequally and marginalized and then you FINALLY had the opportunity to help someone like you rise to the top! That must be exciting.
So to answer your question, some and not all African-Americans vote for Obama, and those who do it's not *always* about race.
No, many African-American politicians, religious figures, activists, and entertainers have openly supported other candidates. David Mack, Greg Meeks, Al Sharpton, Robert Ford to name a few. And let's not forget that as of a couple months ago, Clinton was actually ahead of Obama among black voters, by quite a bit, due in part to Bill Clinton's support of her (he was enormously popular among African-Americans). As of late, both Obama and Clinton have been campaigning furiously among black voters.
And, although as "editor" points out most African-Americans are Democrats and therefore would support either Clinton or Obama, John McCain has done better in polls of black voters than almost any Republican predecessor.
Wow folks Obama has 90% or more of the Black vote in all states. It is a fact. The question is why. Whites are voting for Obama over 40%, but blacks only vote for Clinton between 8 and 10% why?
