is 8 mega pixels a good digital camera quality?

try 12 megapixels way better if your a photograher if its vaction and family crap 8 is good and 10 if your just getting into

its pretty good the image quality should be alright

Megapixels of that size adds more detail but I think six to seven is pretty good as well. Higher megapixels are good for making posters because there is a lot more detail, but I don't think you really need that much if you're just taking pictures. It also depends on the camera's aperture controls because for all you know, it might take really crappy pictures indoors, at least without flash. That's how my camera is, but it's a Casio Exilim so I don't expect too much out of it. However, with flash, there is a lot of detail; and outside where there is a lot of sunshine, it takes very crisp pictures. So it is not always just the megapixels that you should be concerned about when you look into buying a digital camera.

Well it all depends on the range, I don't know how it goes but the more megapixel the better the picture will look like at a far away range, and the less megapixel it has the more better the pic. will look like close range. Im not sure if that's right but that's what I heard on the T.V.

it depends what you're using the camera for anyway. 8 megapixels is good, I have a 6 megapixel one I use for some of my photography and I can still get good clear photos.

However when I go out specifically to take photos for say my art portfolio, I'll use my 12 megapixel camera.

However, my 6 megapixel one has manual zoom, so I find that easier to use.

If you are using it for snapshots no bigger than 6x8 its great. Even larger size pictures will be fine. Look for OPTICAL zoom. Much (!) better that digital zoom.
Unless you are going pro then 10 - 12 sounds right.
