not much.

Catholics are Christian, not all Christians are Catholics.

Catholics are more "by-the-book." They're much more strict on some of the doctrines as well.

Christians are any number of religions that have the belief that Jesus is their lord and savior.

Catholics are one of those religions.

Think of Christianity as a section of religion and Catholisim as one thing in that section

Catholicism is actually a section of Christianity, not the other way around.

To answer your question, the deference between Catholicism and most other Christian beliefs is that Catholics believe that by doing good works, you will get into Heaven. They dont believe in "Grace though Faith", which is the belief that you have to accept Christ in to your heart, and you will be saved.
To me, it seems that they kind of go against the new testament in that sense, because, although it says that you do need to do good works, it also says that the only way to the Father is through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

The first sentence of trappednwndrland's answer is accurate. Beyond that, it's very biased.

This link gives a good, unbiased comparison of Catholics and most Protestant faiths (at least, the conservative ones) on a number of issues.

It's somewhat generalized, but it's a good place to start such research.

I don't feel that trapped's advice was biased, in fact, I thought it very accurately described the most important of all the differences.

*["not much."]

***You are in error. The differences between Catholics and Christians are huge and irreconciliable as I will show.

*["Catholics are Christian..."]

***Catholics are not and cannot be considered as Christians...for Roman Catholicism is the vestal virgin religion of ancient Rome dressed in religious regalia...and most of its religious doctrines are not supported by the Bible.

*["...not all Christians are Catholics."]

***One cannot believe what Roman Catholics believe and be considered Christians as the Bible defines Christians.

"["Catholics are more 'by-the-book'..."]

***Roman Catholicism gives very little credence to the Bible and deny most Biblical doctrine...in actuality--- they are not "by the book" at all.

The following Catholic beliefs find no biblical support at all in the Bible
(1) The priesthood:
(2)The validity of Tradition
(3)Peter as Head of the Church
(4)The Papacy
(5)Mary as Co-Redemptress
(6)The Immaculate Conception
(7)The Assumption of Mary
(8)The Mass
(9)The Seven Sacraments
(10)Transubstantiation
(11)The Confessional
(12)Purgatory
(13)The Infallibility of the pope
(14)Penance
(15)Indulgences
(16)Salvation by works
(17)Craven Images
(18)Celibacy of priests

BOTTOM-LINE :The Roman Catholic doctrine and belief system is at odds with the Scriptures and, as such, cannot be a Biblically-based Christian religion.
