Catholics are Christian, not all Christians are Catholics.

Christians are any number of religions that have the belief that Jesus is their lord and savior.

Catholics are one of those religions.

Think of Christianity as a section of religion and Catholisim as one thing in that section

To answer your question, the deference between Catholicism and most other Christian beliefs is that Catholics believe that by doing good works, you will get into Heaven. They dont believe in "Grace though Faith", which is the belief that you have to accept Christ in to your heart, and you will be saved.
To me, it seems that they kind of go against the new testament in that sense, because, although it says that you do need to do good works, it also says that the only way to the Father is through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
