Difference in party ethics

Barrack Asked by rickd 2 months ago, 12 answers.

While they are confiscating buckets of urin from Democrat protesters, outside of the RNC, republican volunteers who wanted to protest the DNC were being told by the higher ups to go and volunteer themselves for good causes that actually help people. Hey,...

instead of holding that sign, go donate some blood. Just another reason why I affiliate myself with Republican Party.

There was also a man from my town ready with explosives, but then there was a sniper at the Democratic convention too. Don't think there weren't Republican protesters at the Democrat's party. Focus on the Family even held coordinated imprecatory prayers in which they asked God to flood the Democrat's convention with torrential rain (which is kind of ironic, when you think about how things turned out).

It's naive to view the world solely in terms of good guys and bad guys, especially when you're dealing with politics.

Are you sure the protesters were Democrats?? They might have been commies.

The people you are speaking about were anarchists.

an anarchist is a person who rebels against any authority, established order, or ruling power.

That greatly differs from EITHER a Republican or a Democratic protestor.

Gee, are you trying to replace amblessed as the purveyor of rumors, false-hoods and half-truths?

They just seem to cling to the democratic party a little more. But that kind of disdain for authority is at the core of liberal beliefs, is it not?

Of course it's not the core of the liberal belief system! You really need to try and set aside your biases.

Professor Jonathan Haidt of the University of Virginia designed a survey to study the moral foundations that tend to be associated with self-reported conservatives and liberals, and what he found can give us insight into the way we tend to think.

You can take the survey at YourMorals.org

**SPOILER! TAKE THE SURVEY FIRST!***

You can view the published results of the survey at MoralFoundations.org or by watching a short video at newyorker.com/online/video/conference/2007/haidt

You are right that liberals tend to value respect for established authorities and traditions less than conservatives, but that's not because they build their worldviews around disrespect. It's because they hold other values in higher esteem.

The survey showed that conservatives tend to value harm/care, fairness/reciprocity, ingroup/loyalty, authority/respect, and purity/sanctity in about equal measures, whereas liberals tend to put much more emphasis on harm/care and fairness/reciprocity. That doesn't mean that liberals are imbalanced, or that they don't value loyalty, respect, and purity. It just means that they place the most value on justice and on minimizing the pain of others.

You'd take offense if I were to say that conservatives base their beliefs on injustice and indifference to pain, wouldn't you?

The point isn't that any one view is objectively right or wrong. Worldviews aren't amenable to scientific tests or indisputable philosophical proofs; they rely on personal value judgments. The best you can do is to try to understand where someone with different beliefs comes from. It's much better to try and work through our differences than to try and frame each other as evil or immoral.

No, at the core of liberal beliefs is a respect for the authority of the liberal Trinity: Satan, the Politburo, and bin-Laden. Here's a tip on spotting a liberal. If you poke them in the arm, they will bleed a kind of blue-green slime.

Superman, Jesus, and J. Edgar Hoover would be proud. You can also tell who is liberal because they typically laugh like this after describing their schemes for America: MWUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! They may also be twisting their mustaches.

You can spot a liberal, by the fact that he will KNOW WITHOUT DOUBT what is good for you...better than you do, even!! And then you can pay BIG buckies to have him babysit you.

Me and my mom thought it was pretty funny.
We made fun of McCain through his whole speech.
And how his wife wears clothers that cost more than what my dad makes in a year.
We also counted how many times McCain pointed and said 'my friends.'

It was a pretty high number.

rickd, that type of rhetoric is useless. You are usually better than that. There was no democratic or liberal protesters that got violent. As utopia said, they were anarchists. and they protested in Denver too.

What planet are you from? Isn't it the Democrats who want expansion of government and health care, welfare and more governmental programs? Oh yeah that sounds like they hate authority.

Go anarchy :P

Seriously, why do conservatives distort liberalism? Atleast liberal's intent is good, conservatives just want to be intolerant and are clearly ignorant on some issues or just unconcerned.
