I think most people would answer "no"...my answer is no. I don't believe in patriotism nearly enough to want to become a martyr.

There are things worth dying for. In fact I'd argue that if you don't have anything you are willing to die for than you don't have much of a life.

I'd die for my country but not necessarily for my government. They are not the same thing. All of our wars since WWII have been largly for economic interests. I'm not willing to die in Iraq to guaranty that American companies will have first crack at plundering Iraqi oil.

I'd die for my country in a combat context, protecting freedom for my children, grandchildren and future generations- not strap a bomb around me to indiscriminately kill innocents because they will not convert or plant a 2nd bomb to kill help responders - or for their ethnic background - sucker-punching, definately not an option.

I would die for my people fighting, not strapping a bomb to myself, but not for my government. There's a major difference in fighting for your family, friends and neighbors and fighting just for something your government leaders want but don't necessarily need.
