"Did Jesus have siblings?"

I recently watched a TV program on the history of Jesus. In it they said that Joseph had sons and daughters by a marriage prior to marrying Mary and that they had several children together after Jesus was born.

It also said that a man other than Joseph was the father of Jesus so all of his siblings would have been half-siblings.

Below are three informational links. The first two are from a Catholic point of view on the siblings and the third is referencing whether Mary was a virgin which is from a syndicated column, "Ethics & Religion." by Mike McManus.

"Paul" uses the same Greek word for 'brother' in reference to fellow Christians that is used to refer to the 'brothers' of Jesus, much like modern Christians who refer to each other as brothers and sisters even though there is no blood relationship. That same word is also used in the NT in reference to people from the same nation, to people who share a common interest, to neighbors, and to the disciples.

Biblically, there's no way to tell whether or not Jesus had siblings.

If you want the truth, you will have to go to the bible for it. The tv shows, are wrong on many points. I belive this is intentional on their part. Satan has done a good job, of taking faith from multitudes, in the last generation and the present one.

He will continue with every avenue possible.

The facts are in the bible.

If you are going to be a believer, you will have to stand on the bible.

You cannot take the word of anything or anyone else.

It will totally rob you of your faith.

That is the purpose of it.

And yes, Jesus did have siblings. And no Joseph, did not have children prior to his union with Mary. And no, Jesus did not have an earthly father.

Joseph and Mary had other children, after Jesus.

Simple as that.

Read it for yourself, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

Blessings...

Oh yes, I believe it's highly probable that Jesus had siblings. I never believed Mary is "ever-Virgin". After all, did anyone ever examine her?

Yes. Although the Bible doesn't talk about specific sisters, this was most likely due to the role women had in the world at that time. Jesus' siblings (plural)are mentioned when he goes to the wedding (water to wine miricle) and James (writer in NT) was Jesus' younger brother.
