Deafness in ferrets?

Shark Atack Asked by funadvice 8 months ago, 4 answers.

I just got a ferret and was reading that that the color I have could be prone to deafness and mine is a very heavy sleeper and when I scream or clap she doesn't respond. Does this mean mine is deaf??? If not how can I tell???

Take your ferret to a vet. that handles ferrets. There are vets that do. Get her checked out.

A deaf pit bull pup was brought to my door last year...this is how I found out she was deaf...snapping my fingers first on one side of her head...no response, then I did the same thing by her other ear...no response then either...most pups would respond when they hear a noise by them...either looking in that direction or flinching...she did nothing, no response at all...dichihuahua

Is she white? happy Many white animals (also including dogs) are prone to deafness. Best way to find out is take her to a vet for an exam.

Ditto to what editor says...Albino (white with red eyes)...I don't know much about ferrets, but in kittens and dogs, white with blue eyes have a tendency to be deaf.
