Counting to thirty in kindergarten, isn't that aiming low?

Counting to thirty in kindergarten, isn't that aiming low? My older son is jus five and a half, and he can count to a hundred. My younger son just turned four in May, attends pre school, and can count to thirty already - he won't be in kindergarten for...

another year, almost.

The district we live in is supposedly "one of the best in the state" in California, from the test scores, etc. However, the goal for kindergarten is that the children count to 30 by years end. Isn't that aiming far, FAR too low? Most of the jobs of today - and tomorrow - are dependent on math, science, and technology. Math is becomming the second language of choice, if you want a job that pays well.

So why are the schools aiming so low? Or...are most kids really struggling to count to 30 by age six? That seems strange, it's not hard...and most children can talk fluently by age three.

That seems awefully low ball to me. My nephews can count to about thirty, and the older one just turned four recently...most other kids I've met seem like they could tackle that small challenge, too.

my son can count to 50 and in his class there still only teaching them to count to ten hes 3, but thats just what they are suposet to be able to count to at the age, if they can count higher thats very good but other kids in your sons class that dont have mums and dads willing to learn there chiled proble cant count to 30 yet, and thats why they will still be learning it

i live in ontario and the kids in kindergarden count to 100, some cant but they aim high. if you feel that your child is capable of more try to teach him on your own or even see if there are other school boards with a higher cirriculum.
