Could my chihuahua be pregnant?

Asked by chiloverjenn about 1 year ago, 2 answers.

I noticed that my chihuahua was in heat on sept.22. she refused to let my step daughter's dog breed her. So I knew she wasn't ready. Or at least I thought I knew. I put her back in with my other dogs(1 male 1female) then noticed that she liked my dog...

better. I still wanted to breed her with another chi so I sent her to a stud. They called me 4 days later to tell me that they thought I missed her heat. Could she have bred with my male without me knowing it? I put them together during the daytime and nothing happened. At night I put her in the house instead of the garage(enclosed for my pets). Now when I look at her the only thing I notice is that her private area is still alittle swollen and that when she sits her nipples seem sort baggy/losser?!? Only real help please. I don't need people telling me of over population or giving me stupid answers.

I think it is very possible that she could be pregnant. I would take her to a vet and have them look at her. But you might want to wait just a couple of days to make sure she is far enough along for them to tell, so you don't waste your money. My Mom's chihuahua went through what they call a "false pregnancy" once. That can make her body think she's pregnant when she's not. I forgot what they said caused it, but it does happen sometimes. In your case, I think there may have been better chemistry between the two b/c maybe they know each other better? Is your male a chihuahua too?

My male is a chiweenie and I was worried because I thought the puppies might be alittle too big. I weighed my chi(sweetie) and she was 10lbs. during her heat cycle. The information that I read, is that if your dog is 5lbs. or smaller you shouldn't breed. So here I thought okay, I guess it's okay to go ahead a breed her. I know, I know! You shouldn't be letting your dog reproduce when there are so many dogs out there that are euthinized everyday, but I have so many friends and relatives that are asking me for puppies that I finally gave in and tried to breed her. Now the only thing is, is tht I don't know if she is pregnant. Aside from the previously named symptoms, she doesn't look any fatter.
