The egg; some other creature laid it and out came a chicken.

Well; the chicken had to have come from somewhere, obviously. So the egg. But then.. where did the egg come from?

Possibly some mutilated alpaca with a duck bill and purple legs?
We'll never know.

"Which came first, the chicken or the egg?"

The egg
.
It was laid by the female of a species. During its development it developed one or more evolutionary traits that started its distinctiveness as being a little different from the creature that laid it.

Those traits aided in its survival and growth and were therefor passed on to future generations.

Future generations kept evolving with additional survival traits until eventually the complete chicken had evolved.

But it still had to come from an egg, so the egg came first!

We are talking about evolution and millions of years. And hundreds (or thousands) of tiny genetic changes, most of which you couldn't spot if you saw the mom and the offspring at each change

its definitely the chicken if you look at the Bible. it says that God made fowl fly somewhere in Genesis. a chicken is a fowl. chickens dont go from egg to flying chicken in less than eight days, so it is the chicken.

The chicken is the egg, and the egg is the chicken.
