I asked the same question... more specifically whether advisors change questions and to quote lexicon...
"Yeah, we do change titles from time to time. Some of the reasons we change them:
1. They have a nasty word in the question (ie: something your grandmother would be shocked to hear)
2. The question isn't really a question
3. The question is given a one word title
An example: If you typed 'Pets' as the title for your question 'How can I get a new pet?', we would change the title to 'How do I get a new pet?'- this is so the title lets other members know what the question is, at a first glance."
Here's the link to the answers I got

Changing questions.
Why does this site change the name of your questions? I have noticed that eventually the name of your question gets changed. The title you give your question gets modified a bit by somebody else. Please give suggestions. Thank You.
