Why did my cat have a little fit of wheezing?

Moi Asked by rachel7774 about 1 year ago, 3 answers.

My 4.5 to 5 month old male cat just suddenly had a little fit of wheezing today. He has had all shots except the feline leukemia. I also have one of his brothers who has had the same vaccines. I have not noticed it before and it only lasted maybe 5 to...

10 seconds. I sort of thought he might vomit at first but did not. They sometimes sneeze a little but I figured it was because of dust and such. They were checked over by the vet each time and given a clean bill of health. Should I be concerned? What could that possibly be caused by? They are both very active and playful and exhibit no signs of sickness. Thanks.

I've had cats on and off for 40 years, and usually when a cat does this it's because the cat is trying to hack up a hairball. Cats constantly lick themselves and their rough tongues gather hair which they swallow, then have to hack (cough) up. Grooming (which young cats seem to love) should reduce the ahcking, but not eliminate it.

I agree with bimjob, it's definitely hairballs. There is absolutely no need for concern, it's completely normal. They may end up vomiting a hairball every now and then...so much fun to clean up :-)

It more than likely is furballs, although cats can sometimes come down with a wee virus-a cold just like humans! It's not contagious to humans though. The other explanation may be feline asthma. Keep an eye on them both and if symptoms persist take to the vet.
