Can they be trained?

Asked by doodleroks14 7 months ago, 2 answers.

we've had a honey-bear hamster(the kind that's all yellow with black ears) for about two months now. All the hamsters in the past would be trained by now, but this one just doesn't want to coroperate; he jumps all ovr the place, makes a mess wherevr he...

goes, and doesn't let us hold him. Sure he's still a baby, but he's really annoying after a while. If you know anything of these hamsters and how to train them, please reply.

Hi,

Can you tell me a little more about what you want to train him to do? Are you asking on how to make him easy to handle, or litter trained? I don't know any hamsters that were litter trained, but mine would always use the same corner of his cage to urinate and defecate in. When he was young, I would put the bedding that he peed on in one corner, it eventually taught him to go there.

In terms of handling, all of my hamsters were cuddlers, so I'm not entirely sure. I'd try by associating handling with food and see if that helps.
