If your hair is A really Dark brown you'll have some trouble at first. And seeing as how you've never done it before, I'd suggest spending money on going to a good salon and, getting it done professionally.
First thing you need to know is, if you have recently used Black, or Dark brown hair dye you might as well wait till that color fades before attempting to bleach your hair, Recently dyed hair is no fun to strip.
If you have virgin hair (Unprocessed) then it's probably the best to work with. First you'd go to a store like Sally's , and purchase a bleach kit, I personally buy The bleach, and a developer separate, if you do that make sure to get the right Volume of developer, Keep in mind the higher the Volume the more powerful.
Suggestion: Pure White 10-Volume Creme Developer (You could go up to 20)
By: Clairol Professional
Another alternative for developer is 10-Volume Creme Developer (Keep in mind they come in different volumes to the brand will offer about 10 to 40.)
By: Salon Care
,And as far as the Actual bleach powder goes, there is a lot to choose from.
If you're looking for a quicker solution, As I mentioned before you could use a kit,
Suggestion: Flash Lightning Hair Lightening Kit
By: Manic Panic.
Make sure to read the instructions on whatever you choose, AND DO NOT leave in longer than the recommended time. Ask the person working at the store if you have any questions, I'm sure they can help you out.
If you buy the Bleach Powder, and Developer separate Make sure to get gloves, and a brush.
After you're done bleaching Invest in a Toner usually bleaching gives you an ugly orange, or brassy hair at first , Clairol Professional offers A few different colors with there Creme Toner line, and that runs at about $5.00ish.
When you're done with all of that, make sure to condition your hair A LOT, Hot Oil treatments, and Paul Mitchell Products wouldn't hurt.
Good luck.
