head and shoulders shampoo is suppost to strip the black it might take a while though I accidently dyed my hair black the colour said dark brown and it turned black I brought a nice and easy born blonde yesterday to strip the black sadly I ended up with blonde roots and ginger hair which my hairdresser said I probably would I'm now in the middle of dying it back a light brown so I will let you know how that goes and weather I reccomend using it also a tip when you dye your hair dark brown buy a medium brown as your hair will turn dark brown if you buy a dark brown you'll just turn it black again don't try putting a dark brown over the black as it wont take if anythink it just makes it darker this is all from personal experiance hope I helped and I'll get back to you on born blonde,

kaseyxmariex92,
I took a number of different hair classes, so I do know how the salon will do it, but its much cheaper to do it at home yourself. Or atleast a family memeber or friend.
First:
You will need to buy a bleaching kit. Not all blonde colouring kits will take out black, so you will need to make sure its a bleaching one by carefully reading the label. It will cost anywhere from $12 to $15 (Canadian).

Second:
You will need to go home and do that, obviosly, or wherever you are doing it. Once you have all the hairdye in (it probley wont work instantly so don't panic) MAKE SURE you get a plastic bag and cover all your hair with it, and pin it up so it is sealed really good. The heat NEEDS to be kept in, so the bleach works.

Third:
Assuming you got the right kit and your hair is now bleach blonde, now you are able to buy a brown hairdyeing kit and it will work 100%. Any colour will work on blonde.

This may sound expensive. But its really the only way to go, the salon would cost A LOT more because you have to pay other charges aswell. Black does not fade into bown, it eventually fades into a greyish colour usually. So, good luck and I hope it goes well for you.

Seek the help of a professional, you don't want to end up with bright orange, green, or broken off hair. if you jsut want to lighten it a TINY bit, wash your hair with baking soda and pert plus shampoo, let it sit on for a while and MAKE SURE to use a REALLY GOOD CONDITIONER afterwards. If you do bleach it yourself and it turns out really brassy, you'll want to put an ash based color over it. If it is not brassy, but more of a bleach blonde or a cooler shade DO NOT use an ash color as your hair WILL have a hint of green to it. Good luck, but I really hope you get somone with some training to do it for you.

Hi, Please do not take any of this advice that people without a cosmetology license have given you. I have a license to do hair and just recently removed black color from one of my friends hair. She used over the counter black hair color and when I first met her it was halfway down the hairshaft. Her natural color was about a level 5 (light brown). I went to local supply house and bought a color remover. NOT BLEACH. You mix the color remover with a 20 volume peroxide and apply like color all over the black hair. Be careful not to get this on the natural regrowth. If you do, the natural color with be really blond. But I did warn my friend not to freak after I removed the color remover. I let her know it would like like a burnt orange color. She was ok with that. Also, when you finally remove all the black, do not apply another permanent color on your pourous hair. Use a semi- permanent color. This will not deposit real dark and will fade after 4 to 6 weeks, thus giving you time to get that porous-damaged hair back to normal porosity, for permanent color.Protein packs with help strengthen your hair after such harsh chemicals are used to remove the black. Salons call this a color correction service and you will pay at least 200.00 for this service. My friends hair turned out really nice. Her black was so gothic looking and now she is a pretty medium copper brown. Good luck
