the jefferson bible...
intelligent and does not contain the supernatural aspects jefferson believed had been added by the four evangelists. thomas jefferson did not believe in jesus' divinity, the trinity, the resurrection, miracles, or any other supernatural aspect described in the bible.
some think it is a bible for liberals...

Any bible is good ...I enjoy 'The Good News'...it doesn't have the thees and thous so it is more understandable to read. I also enjoy my student bible which is NIV by Zondervan. My suggestion is to go to a christian bookstore and pick a few and sit down there and read the same scriptures in each one.
If you feel you are a new christian I suggest reading John first.
Hope this helps you ... You are blessed and highly favoured in God's eyes. :-)

Being a biblicist is perhaps for theologins to claim scholarly association to the believers of biblical scripture. Being a Canadian is to have respect for the national version when in association with national believers. Being American, likewise. Thinking internationally is also respctful of the scope of Christianity and the people with whom you may find association, so the NIRV is appropriate. From the ABS you will find a study bible, perhaps there are other study bibles published but one such reference bible leads you to the equivalent scripture in the context of the issue at hand in relevance to Christian associations. The importance is to seek respect in understanding what is relevant to the social acceptability of interpretation. For instance, the United Church of Canada had youth reading both national bibles in years gone by, now they promote a version of the NIV, presumably consistent with recent Liberal promotions of multiculturalism introduced during the government of Prime Minister Jean Cretien. The history of such promotion has not been monitored by myself, but that is today's approach.

Well when it really comes down to it, a Bible is a Bible. As long as it's a Holy Bible, with, like rneal said, 66 books, then you are good-to-go, my friend! I got mine from the dollar store and it's a King James Version, thee's and thou's a-plenty. I had a special 'Teen' bible when I was younger, and I found it to make reading the Good Book a bit more entertaining as it included inserts that had some neat things relating to teenagers and relavant situations. So you may want to put your age into the equation when selecting your Bible.

There are some other things you may want to consider when making your final decision. For example, why get the Bible in a book form? You know, there ARE DVD and CD-ROM versions that not only show the scripture on the screen, but read them to you out loud as well. Or maybe you might enjoy a CD set you can listen to in your car everywhere you drive, you could breeze through the whole Bible rather quickly, I would imagine. There are also handheld electronic Bibles that vary in size that allow you to, much like the DVD, go directly to the Book, Chapter, and Verse of your choice.

Or if you really want to be authentic, you could learn Hebrew and read the Bible in the language it was written in. That's how they found all of the 'Bible Codes' you may have heard of. Anyway, happy hunting! Whichever one you get, they all still lead to the same Path!

well you should always have a kjv but if you want to study on your own a niv is the best it explains everything to where you can understand it

I think there is an exception to sinfully removing words from the bible. Some soldiers in WWII perhaps found a page of bible paper useful for many reasons. I like to think that they would have been very selective in removing a page from the book of Revelation in prayer to prevent such as the apocalypse by winning the war. I would certainly think those war dead and veterans would appreciate your understanding.

Some kids also can unwittingly remove a page, I like Scotch tape.

As of now, theologians say that the New American Standard Bible (NASB) is the most accurate. and it's really easier to understand, I love it

I agree with ameoba. The Jeffersonion bible is the only one worth reading. While it is still fiction, it is at least much more realistic, and has a much better message.
