Beta fish and compatible fish.

I have a Beta Fish and was wondering which types of fish can survive with a beta. Beta are pretty mean and will attack other beta fish if they are put in the same tank.

There are some fish that can live with beta in the same tank but I don't know...

which ones. Does anyone have any ideas?

You should avoid putting other fish with betas. Either the beta will attack and kill the other fish or the other fish is likely to nip at the beta's long and pretty fins.

I once put these little fish that the store said could go with them but then they went missing? they werent dead at the top and there was no bones in the tank so id say leave the beta alone in the tank!

Question...a friend told me they left their Betta in an area with a lot of sun while on vacation, leaving another relative to care for him. When they arrived home the fish had changed color and was no longer blue but now a vibrant red. Somehow I seem to doubt the occurrence and believe the fish was just swapped for a new one. Has anyone ever heard of this?

I have my betta in with a bala shark and 2 guppies and they are all very happy

hey I've had some bettas both male and female. let me just say females in my opinon are ugly lol I tried breeding them even tho they are the hardest fish 2 breed you got to keep them separate and warm until the male makes a bubble nest anyway...

No they dont get along with any other fish I wouldnt try it either not even with female bettas.

but female bettas DO! get along with other docile fish

I wanted to get an algae eater to put in with my Betta. Is that okay?

nope alyssama, bettas are very dominate creatures the males will kill pretty much anything. females on the other hand are very docile. they dont mind having other fish around, other females are good even an algae eater will work for them. but dont put anything in the with male is my advice...

I recently set up my own aqarium and have Beta fish in my aquarium.I have 28 gallon one. I have cat fish , ghost cat fish . damation molly and red tale platy and they all seem to be doing fine. I was told my the store that beta fish only are mean to other beta or the fish which have bigger fins. Beta fish usually attack who happens to have a better fins then them so you might want to watch that out. Honestly beta get alongs good with any community fish and I have seen it many places . try it out.

Beta fish do get along with other fish. I had mollies, sword fish, cat fish, sharks, and all kinds of other community fish in with my betta. it did great. My beta finally died after a couple years and I just never got another, but they were in a 20 galllon too until I got my 35 and 55 set back up after I moved. If you put smaller fish in with it I recommend 4 or 5 of they to make a community. I recomend that though with any small fish going in with bigger fish.

I have my Betta living happily with several Guppies, 2 African Frogs, 2 cat fish, 2 plecos and a Platy...I will be getting more Platy as they prefer to school.
My mother has her Betta with a school of neon tetras, cat fish, plecos, African frogs and Guppies, all with out any problems.

I just got 2 new male beta fish, an algae eater, and a male gold fish. I have the 2 betas in one tank with a divider and I want to move one of them in with the goldfish and the algae eater but im afraid to. I dont know what will happen and im afraid to take a chance with it, some kind of advice would help a lot.

DONT DO IT!!! I have NEVER seen a Beta get along with any other fish. Why do you think they are called Chinese Fighting fish==they fight till the death. I even (at the advise of the pet store) tried to place a female in with my male--poor girl got her fins all chewed up!! The males are mean!!

actually if you have enough *insert animal here* they will get along I cant remember what animal it was... but I know it was a fish ... people said to not keep them together ... well they put about 50 all together and they didnt hurt each other

My beta that I got about a week ago is just sitting at the bottom of the tank and dont swim around much at all. What can I do to let him have fun and swim around more? Another thing is that he is not eating much. I feed him blood worms. What should I do?

I have a 80 gal. tank, with one male crown tail Beta, 14 female Betas, one Molly LierTail, 8 neons, 6 black skirt Tetras, 2 Tiger Sucker fish, 1 mickey mouse, one SunBurst molly. They get along great, had to do a time out a couple of times at first with a couple but they are doing fine now. If your Beta is sitting on the bottom could be to cold of a tank, no hiding places, they are'nt big swimmers tho make sure you take out the food he doesn't eat. Check your water also just to be sure its good.Steve
