I've played basketball for a number of years and am on the shorter side. I know what you are talking about. Practice is always great but you also have to think about what advantages you have over a taller person. Typically a smaller person will be faster/quicker. What I used to do is get a tall person who is guarding me to pick me up far from the basket. Then litterally drive to the hoop. I was quicker then they are so it helped. If you are under the hoop playing a taller person you don't have the advantage. I would also work on your outside shot and passing. That was the key to my game. Passing and shooting. I never really had to drive low, rebound and do the things that taller people have the advantage on. Look at Allen Iverson. He is tiny. He is great at passing and shooting. Focus on that.
Don't worry, with time and practice more confidence will come and the nerves disappear....but remember, Michael Jordan didn't make the team his first try and Larry Bird was only gifted to a degree....what turned the corner for both ??
PRACTICE,PRACTICE,PRACTICE, and more........PRACTICE
Good Luck and God Bless !!
